2pm Alexander Technique for violin students with Victoria Cresswell in Mark
Elder Concert Hall. Please bring comfortable wear – trousers are advisable.
3.00pm BREAK (tea, coffee, juice, biscuits provided)
3.30pm Violin Performance Class for violin students with Alex Laing
This is an opportunity to learn through observation and group discussion.
Three or four pupils will be given the opportunity to play a piece which will then form the basis of an open forum group discussion and over the course of the session, all pupils
and observers will be encouraged to experiment on their instruments to aid their learning.
5pm Signing Out
Alex isArtistic Director (Music) at the King’s High School in Warwick, a role which oversees music provision for children aged 3-18 and where he conducts the Warwick Independent Schools Foundation Symphony Orchestra. He is a conductor, violinist, educator and writer. He is founder and Artistic Director of the Darwin Ensemble Chamber Orchestra, with whom he regularly appears as soloist. He is a conductor and violin tutor for the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain (NCO), conductor of the NCO Easterlies and is also a conductor and course director for the National Youth String Orchestra of Great Britain. Alex is a former Head of Strings at Uppingham School and a former professor at the Royal College of Music in the Junior Department. Alex’s students have won scholarships to leading conservatoires, are prize winners in the UK and abroad and are members of the NCO and of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. Alex contributes articles on violin teaching to ARCO and JESTA, magazines for the European String Teachers Association, and his reviews of music and education regularly appear in the Strad magazine.
In 1984 Victoria qualified to teach the Alexander Technique in London. For the last 35 years she has taught the Alexander Technique as well as Dance Improvisation and Pilates. Her teaching practices have been in Hampstead, Cheltenham, Kings Langley and Karlsruhe in Germany, Bern and Zurich in Switzerland. She now practises in Ringwood and at Bryanston School. Recently she completed two post graduate trainings in Alexander Technique studies: ‘Developeing the Art of Seeing and Touch’ and ‘The Art of Breathing.’
