ESTA Post Graduate Certificate

 

JOB TITLE: Member of ESTA mentor panel

REPORTS TO: ESTA PG Cert Course Leader and ESTA PG Cert panel

DATE: May 2019

LOCATION: Home based plus 3 days at University of Chichester campus for the Summer   School.                        

Fee: Between £3,500 – £3,800 (based on four students and 1 unit lead)

JOB PURPOSE

  • To mentor students on the ESTA PG Cert course
  • To attend a minimum of three days including Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday for face-to-face study sessions at the ESTA PG Cert Summer School
  • To work online providing mentor support to students on the ESTA PG Cert course

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESULTS

  • Creation, delivery and integrity of the mentor components of the ESTA PG Cert professional development course working in partnership with the University of Chichester
  • Interact with ESTA PG Cert students online on the University of Chichester website
  • Visit the ESTA PG Cert online study site several times per week and post on the site twice or more per week
  • Lead a Unit from the study programme as and if required by the Course Leader
  • Lead course study sessions as required by the Course Leader
  • Monitor students’ work
  • Prepare webinars and deliver
  • Assess students’ work
  • Moderate students’ work working with fellow mentors and Course Leader
  • Monitor cost implications of own work

NATURE AND PURPOSE OF INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CONTACTS.

 INTERNAL

  • All ESTA personnel including Council, and specifically the ESTA professional development panel
  • ESTA PG Cert Course Leader
  • ESTA mentors and mentor panel

  • University of Chichester

  • Organisations e.g. ABRSM, ACE, DfE, ISM, MEC, MMA, TCL, QCA etc.

 SKILLS REQUIRED FOR A FULLY ACCEPTABLE PERFORMANCE

  • Music to higher degree level or equivalent
  • Experience as a performer of instruments included in the ESTA PG Cert course programme
  • Experience as a teacher of instruments included in the ESTA PG Cert course programme
  • Knowledge of music education and associated pedagogy
  • Experience of INSET/CPD delivery
  • Effective inter-personal skills

JOB CONTEXT

  • The post holder works from home and provides mentoring to students enrolled on the ESTA PG Cert course the course at venues agreed by ESTA and University of Chichester
  • Liaison with ESTA PG Cert Course Leader and fellow mentors
  • Some travel is needed: visits to ESTA course venues; ESTA course delivery; moderation of ESTA students’ work.

 TYPICAL PROBLEMS REFERRED TO SUPERIOR

  • Major matters of policy associated with the future planning for delivery and marketing of the ESTA PG Cert course
  • Quality assurance matters associated with students’ academic (and pastoral) welfare
  • Course fees, budgets and significant expenditures outside budgeted areas

 

NATURE AND RANGE OF IMPACT

  • Most powerful immediate impact is on ESTA students where there will be a revised view of the processes of music education
  • Publicity for the ESTA course impacts on all ESTA members and potential members

 

ALLOCATION, REVIEW AND APPROVAL OF WORK

  • Post holder has full authority within the Job Purpose, reporting and responsible to the ESTA Council who review progress
  • The bulk of the of work is self-generated by the post holder or in response to staff or customers’ needs
  • Post holder is responsible for ensuring effective moderation of all ESTA PG Cert mentors’ and students’ work

 

EQUIPMENT OPERATION

  • IT: email, online communication, word-processing, spreadsheet, database (80%)
  • video call, telephone (20%)
  • Post holder is not involved with the servicing or maintenance of any equipment.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • The job requires a broad understanding of both UK and international education systems with particular knowledge of music education as both a classroom subject and as provided through instrumental and singing teaching
